The Bawd 'n' Verse

A Lecture/Demonstration/Workshop on the art of performing Shakespeare

at Raah - a Literacy & Cultural Centre, Pune - Saturday, 28th Feb 2018

Shakespeare - a name that strikes fear into the very hearts of even the most literary of people. A name that frightens students, gives scholars nightmares, and fills many of us with collywobbles. The name 'Shakespeare' has led, historically, to almost as many cardiac arrests as the word 'Mathematics.'
But there really is no reason to fear. Shakespeare is no monster. In fact, he may even become your best friend. All it takes is a little trust, a little courage, and a lot of fun.
400 years after Shakespeare passed, come to Raah and make friends with his most outrageous characters and dialogues, his puns, wordplay, double entendres and insults.
The evening will be part lecture, part demonstration, and part workshop. Audience members will be invited to step up, have scenes from Shakespeare's most delightful plays thrust upon them, and be invited to perform, as they are skillfully directed to create magic for the audience they emerged from only moments earlier.
Parental and Prude advisory: Shakespearean language is often very, very unparliamentary, so if you are easily offended and do not wish to expand your vocabulary of offensive words and scenes, or Shakespeare's bawdy, this session is not for you, or for those not yet of age to consume what we euphemistically call 'adult' content.
